Job Summary

The Hampton VA Medical Center is seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform a wide range of functional studies of organs and systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with static and dynamic imaging procedures, radionuclide injection, and specialized equipment operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis and storage of patient study data related to procedures and protocols.
  • Assist in cross-training new technologists and interns in gamma camera systems, computer systems, and radionuclide procedures.
  • Ensure quality control is performed during all phases of radionuclide imaging.
  • Troubleshoot clinical and instrumentation problems.
  • Update technical procedures manuals.
  • Perform in vivo and in vitro studies using laboratory manipulations.
  • Use centrifuges, pipettes, and computer programs to examine, calculate, analyze, and report testing results.
  • Compound radiopharmaceuticals and administer them to patients.
  • Schedule patients and determine equipment parameters needed for each study.
Requirements
  • Certification in nuclear medicine technology by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (N).
  • Completion of a NMTCB-recognized nuclear medicine technology program or a program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT).
  • 1 year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled.
  • Ability to produce and assess high-quality scans and quality control images.
  • Knowledge of physiologic processes and radiopharmaceutical uptake.
  • Ability to develop new protocols for imaging procedures.
Working Conditions

The physical demands of the work include heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and wearing a lead apron for long periods. The ideal candidate must be able to stand and work in a fast-paced environment.
