Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde is seeking a dedicated individual to contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of our outdoor spaces, including the Tribal Cemetery and surrounding landscapes. This role is vital in ensuring a safe, aesthetically pleasing environment for staff and Tribal members to engage in community activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and supervise traditional burial practices, collaborating with contractors for mechanized interments and the installation of memorial markers.
  • Assist in the routine maintenance of facilities and grounds.
  • Manage lawn care by mowing, edging, and trimming various areas, utilizing equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
  • Maintain the health of plants by pruning and removing dead foliage to promote growth.
  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to lawns and plants as necessary, while managing debris removal through raking and disposal.
  • Ensure cleanliness of outdoor areas and parking facilities, adhering to a daily maintenance schedule.
  • Clear snow and apply de-icing agents to ensure safe passage during winter conditions.
  • Plant and care for grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs, ensuring proper irrigation and maintenance.
  • Assist with minor plumbing and electrical tasks or escalate issues to the supervisor.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment, including HVAC systems and plumbing.
  • Maintain drainage systems and manage water flow during rainy periods.
  • Sharpen and maintain landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective groundskeeping operations.
  • Complete daily tasks and additional duties as assigned, with hours subject to seasonal changes.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect during interactions, particularly in sensitive situations.
  • Work under supervision on special projects and ongoing maintenance tasks.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; vocational training in a related field is preferred.
  • One year of relevant experience or training is necessary, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driving Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet vehicle insurance requirements.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating heavy machinery and power tools safely.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety guidelines and maintenance instructions.
  • Basic mathematical skills for interpreting data and performing calculations.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and address problems in standard situations.
  • Understanding and respect for the culture and history of the Grand Ronde Tribe.
  • Weekend availability may be required.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to Native American culture is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and convey important information.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for tasks, with repetitive movements.
  • Physical stamina for walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to various environmental conditions, including noise and weather.
  • May require local travel for job-related duties.
