Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Incident Response Specialist to join our team at Webber. As a key member of our highway maintenance operations, you will be responsible for responding to incidents on provincial highways, including traffic accidents, spills, and emergency situations that affect the highway and the safety of the traveling public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Incident Management: Serve as a primary liaison between police, fire, and various emergency responders during incident management, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
  • Communication and Reporting: Communicate with the Traffic Monitoring Center (TMC) and Webber's management team by 2-way radio and telephone to provide information and updates pertaining to incidents, and complete incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Detour Coordination: Coordinate detour routes in the event of a road closure, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow and public safety.
  • Investigation and Analysis: Conduct follow-through investigations on all fatalities to determine if facilities contributed to the accident, and track and maintain files on all major incidents and accidents involving assets, personnel, and equipment within contract limitations.
  • Third-Party Claims Administration: Assist with the administration of third-party claims by gathering documentation, paperwork, and other relevant information.
  • Special Events Coordination: Coordinate special events involving traffic control, detours, and/or closures, ensuring compliance with federal and local regulations.
  • Other Duties: Perform all other duties as assigned by management, including avoiding legal challenges by complying with federal and local legal requirements.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma required, with a minimum of 2+ years' work experience in highway maintenance operations, traffic control, and incidents/accidents management.
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to manage workload independently, prioritize demands, and problem-solve effectively; proficient computer skills; highly developed sense of safety awareness and perceptive ability; ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and make adjustments to avoid loss, injury, or accident.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, and may be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, fume or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
