Orthopedic Program Coordinator

The Orthopedic Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing the comprehensive care pathway for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery, starting from the pre-operative phase and extending through the first year post-surgery. This includes collaboration with Pre-Admission Testing, Perioperative Services, inpatient care units, and post-acute services, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices tailored for orthopedic patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the coordination among surgeons, healthcare leadership, and clinical staff, while monitoring program progress and pinpointing areas for improvement.
- Manage all aspects of program administration, including report generation, quality improvement initiatives, and enhancing patient and provider satisfaction.
- Collaborate with joint arthroplasty surgeons and anesthesiologists to address the specialized needs of patients.
- Facilitate an interdisciplinary approach to ensure seamless continuity of care, which encompasses utilization management, discharge planning, and securing necessary authorizations for external services.
- Develop, assess, and refine the effectiveness of the joint replacement care pathway, making adjustments as required.
- Oversee patient education initiatives, resource management, discharge processes, and ensure comprehensive care services are provided.
- Identify cost-effective strategies, recommend optimal resource utilization, and promote self-management among patients.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to enhance the patient experience and monitor the quality of care delivered.
- Evaluate patient needs in collaboration with Joint Replacement Program Patient Navigators, engaging with primary care physicians and specialists to formulate care plans.
- In partnership with physicians, implement treatment plans by coordinating care episodes for joint replacement patients across various providers and disciplines.
- Act as a liaison with external care providers, including home health services, rehabilitation facilities, and third-party administrators.
- Serve as a patient advocate and educator, ensuring patients are informed and empowered to manage their conditions effectively.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction metrics.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Physical Therapist (PT) is required.
- Preferred background in orthopedic clinical practice.
- Current licensure as an RN or PT in the state of Arkansas or a current state compact license is mandatory.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing or physical therapy program is essential; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
