The Welding Engineering Specialist serves as the primary authority on welding and fusion processes within the organization. This role entails the management and oversight of welding manuals and procedures, ensuring effective coordination of the joining program across various operational units. This position acts as a vital liaison among different gas distribution companies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the subject matter expert in welding and fusion methodologies.
  • Provide expert consultation on company standards, specifications, and technical guidance related to welding.
  • Guide personnel involved in welding qualifications, non-destructive testing, and compliance assessments.
  • Respond to requests for technical support regarding welding materials and system components.
  • Have the authority to halt operations at any site for non-compliance with established codes and standards.
  • Review and authorize new welding procedures in accordance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with testing analysts and engineers to conduct laboratory and field evaluations of new materials and technologies.
  • Conduct annual audits of the Operating Procedure Manual to ensure compliance with current standards.
  • Oversee inspections of pressure regulator stations and large meter sets to ensure vendor compliance.
  • Consult on the qualification of personnel in welding practices.
  • Establish performance criteria for welding equipment and tools, ensuring they meet operational standards.
  • Prepare formal reports and documentation related to welding procedures and compliance.
  • Conduct inspections of fabricated vessels and oversee non-destructive testing processes.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping for qualified welders.
  • Support regulatory compliance during audits and inspections.
  • Assist in the inspection of incoming materials to maintain quality standards.
Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) required.
  • Valid driver's license.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years in welding and joining operations.
  • Extensive background in welding practices and operational experience.
Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory codes and standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in project management and problem-solving.
  • Ability to adapt and focus on results.
  • Expertise in records management and compliance processes.
