Job Title: Clinical Engineering Technician III

At the University of Maryland Medical System, we are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Engineering Technician III to join our team. As a key member of our clinical engineering department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of medical equipment in our hospitals.

Job Summary

The Clinical Engineering Technician III will be responsible for performing complex repairs and maintenance on medical equipment, including installations, project management, calibration, and routine maintenance. You will work closely with our clinical engineering team to identify and resolve equipment-related issues, ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration services on complex medical equipment, including installations and project management.
  2. Interpret and perform inspection procedures, documenting procedures in accordance with Joint Commission regulations and departmental policy.
  3. Respond to work requests, troubleshoot malfunctions, and make necessary repairs in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.
  4. Schedule third-party repair of equipment when needs are beyond the department's expertise.
  5. Maintain test equipment and tools in good working order, communicating with nursing, allied health, and medical staff regarding equipment operation.
  6. Participate in the evaluation of new, rental, or demonstration biomedical equipment, making recommendations regarding acquisition.
  7. Observe general clinical engineering practices and departmental policies to promote the overall efficiency of repair service and operations.
  8. Assist management with oversight on maintenance of departmental records, including maintenance requests, electrical safety forms, files, and relevant statistics.
  9. Assist with education on use and operation of clinical equipment, responding to emergency codes as trained and assigned.
  10. Maintain the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information, using and disclosing only necessary information to perform the function of the job.
  11. Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. An Associate's Degree or Certificate in Biomedical Equipment Technology (or related field) or Military Biomedical Technology Course (or equivalent technical program).
  2. 5 years of minimum experience in the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment in a hospital setting, with 3 years' experience in maintenance of ventilators, anesthesia machines, and monitoring systems.

You will also need:

  1. Highly effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of hospital staff, patients, visitors, and levels of staff.
  2. Knowledge of applicable trade areas.
  3. Listening and organizational skills.
  4. Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
  5. Results-oriented, mature, self-developing, and have integrity.
  6. The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions and apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
