Job Overview

As a Medical Support Specialist, you will be working under the direction of professional nursing staff to provide direct patient care. Your responsibilities will include taking vital signs, checking surgical dressings, aiding patients with activities of daily living, performing blood draws, and collecting specimen samples.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Patient Care: Perform testing and manage patient care based on results achieved and clinical findings.
  2. Documentation: Record patient care along the continuum, including activities of daily living (ADLs): feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
  3. Vital Signs: Complete, document, and report patient vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, and reported pain level).
  4. Admission, Transfer, and Discharge: Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  5. Cost-Effective Strategies: Participate in cost-effective strategies to optimize patient outcomes.
  6. Patient Safety: Promote patient safety, including fall prevention, ensuring the safety of the clinical environment for patients, visitors, and other staff members.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification: Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) required.
  • BLS Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • ER Experience: ER experience or hospital inpatient is required for this position.
Compensation and Benefits
