Job Overview

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Infusion Manager, the Infusion Nurse plays a crucial role in the safe delivery of various infusion therapies and related medications. This position emphasizes quality and compassionate care, including comprehensive patient assessments, the insertion of short peripheral vascular access devices, and the management of central vascular devices. The Infusion Nurse also provides essential patient education.


Key Responsibilities

Pre-Infusion Duties
  • Organizes infusion appointment schedules to ensure a smooth patient flow.
  • Conducts thorough nursing assessments and patient education in line with infusion center protocols and applicable regulations.
  • Prepares necessary medications, equipment, and supplies, ensuring that medication rooms are well-maintained and stocked.
  • Safely inserts short peripheral vascular access devices and removes central vascular access devices while prioritizing patient comfort.
Infusion Responsibilities
  • Administers prescribed infusions, injections, and other medications as per the center's scope of services.
  • Accurately documents all patient care activities in the electronic medical record, including demographics, treatment details, and vital signs.
  • Performs necessary laboratory tests and follows up on test orders, communicating results to healthcare providers and patients.
  • Monitors and reports on patients' conditions and reactions to treatments, documenting findings in the EMR.
  • Transfers patients to emergency care as needed, while continuously monitoring their condition.
  • Supervises and assists medical assistants in their tasks related to patient care.
Post-Infusion Duties
  • Coordinates patient care plans among healthcare providers, staff, and patient representatives.
  • Delivers comprehensive education to patients and caregivers to facilitate at-home medication administration.
  • Assists infusion staff with administrative tasks as required.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensures a safe and clean working environment by adhering to established procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
  • Engages in professional development activities and maintains relevant professional affiliations.
