Job Description:

At Bayone, we are seeking a highly skilled Specimen Processor to join our team. As a key member of our histology department, you will play a critical role in preparing surgical specimens for histologic processing.

Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare surgical specimens for histologic processing, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  2. Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and labeling, maintaining the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
  3. Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, highlighting all lesions, markings, and sutures.
  4. Escalate non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants for further evaluation.
  5. Record measurements, weight, volume, and any abnormal findings as applicable.
  6. Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
  7. May be trained to perform basic Histology functions, including embedding, microtomy, routine, and special stains.
  8. Complete all associated paperwork and follow laboratory procedures for job-related responsibilities.
  9. Interact directly with pathologists regarding gross dissection/description activities, including defined specimen types that require direct supervision.
  10. Identify and address problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results.
  11. Ensure compliance with corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards.
  12. Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
  • A.A., A.S., B.A., or B.S. degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • 3 months to 1 year of Histology and/or surgical gross experience preferred.
  • Meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Performing Tissue Gross Examinations SOP and 1988 CLIA CFR.
Additional Requirements:
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Availability to work scheduled shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Excessive absenteeism/tardiness is not tolerated and will result in termination.
