Job Title: Gastrointestinal Technician

Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida is seeking a skilled Gastrointestinal Technician to join our team. As a Gastrointestinal Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our medical center.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the performance of colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, EUS, insertion of PEG and PEJ tubes, PEG replacement, and bedside procedures.
  • Set up procedure rooms for assigned procedures, ensuring all necessary accessories are available.
  • Test endoscopes for proper function and white balance them prior to procedures. Report any malfunctioning equipment to supervisors or Lead G.I Tech Specialists.
  • Collect adequate tissue and other specimens during endoscopy procedures, informing physicians if additional tissue is required.
  • Deliver specimens to pathology and/or microbiology departments, obtaining required signatures in specimen logs.
  • Precept new personnel to duties performed by G.I Technicians.
  • Provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients, maintaining patient privacy.
  • Actively participate in the universal protocol, ensuring patients are identified by name and date of birth.
  • Pre-clean endoscopes, removing valves, using cleaning brushes to clean internal channels, and wiping exterior surfaces with prepared disinfectant solutions. Properly rinse endoscopes with clean water until clear.
  • Follow proper technique when placing endoscopes into automatic endoscope re-processors, including leak testing, accurately placing sterilant concentrates, and disposing of biohazard waste.
  • Activate glutaraldehyde solutions, performing daily test strips for solution efficacy, and documenting findings in log books.
  • Perform Whole Blood Glucose Testing in accordance with IFU.
  • Discontinue IV catheters/sites and apply dressings as directed by Registered Nurses.
  • Restock procedure rooms with necessary supplies, including those cases performed in radiology.
  • Safely transport patients, equipment, supplies, and/or medications to other areas of the medical center.
  • Take call rotations and return calls from RNs and/or MDs within 15 minutes of placement.
  • Utilize standard precautions at all times when exposed to blood or body fluids.
Qualifications:
  • BLS certification required.
  • Completion of SGNA Advanced Associate Program within 3 months preferred.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Proficient in Advanced Endoscopy Procedures (ERCPs and EUS).
  • 1 year of Endoscopy Technician experience preferred.
