Job Summary

Hillsboro R-III School District is seeking a skilled Substitute School Nurse to provide health services to students and school personnel. The ideal candidate will promote, protect, maintain, and improve health to provide the fullest educational opportunity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in medical examinations and review findings to evaluate health status of pupils and progress of programs.
  • Authorize exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Provide first-aid and maintain health records of students.
  • Cooperate with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of school children.
  • Responsible for screening vision, blood pressure, head lice, measurements of height and weight.
  • Assume responsibility for referral of students in need of medical or dental care.
  • Observe and advise students regarding health history and nutritional history.
  • Assume responsibility for the care of students or staff who have suffered injuries or emergency illnesses.
  • Administer medications according to school policy.
  • Maintain daily log of pupils seen in health unit and an up-to-date cumulative health records of all students.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Prepare and submit reports for the superintendent and state agencies.
  • Recognize and refer students encountering medical, physical and/or psychological problems.
  • Provide guidance and training to others and give input regarding aides performance.
  • Responsible for the health unit including requisitioning of supplies and equipment, inventory, supervision of auxiliary personnel and volunteers.
  • Participate in evaluations of students and staffing as requested.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships by actively communicating with parents.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents. A strong understanding of health services and medical procedures is essential.
