Overview
The Emergency Response Specialist is tasked with executing both Basic and Advanced life-saving interventions to ensure the safety and well-being of all personnel and visitors. This role encompasses fire suppression and rescue operations, requiring a high level of physical fitness to maintain full operational capability. The specialist must be adept at donning protective gear, including structural firefighting suits, HazMat suits, and self-contained breathing apparatus, among others. While this position reports to the Battalion Chief, its emergency medical service functions are directed by the Assistant Chief of Safety and EMS, adhering to the standards set forth by the State of Florida.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to all organizational policies and safety protocols while executing assigned tasks in a secure manner.
- Arrive punctually in appropriate uniform, ensuring all equipment is maintained in a clean and functional state.
- Engage in ongoing training and familiarize oneself with materials related to emergency medical services and fire safety.
- Administer Advanced Life Support treatments as per established medical protocols and provide emergency care during patient transport.
- Ensure ambulances are kept in optimal working condition, including post-call cleaning and inventory management of medical supplies.
- Safeguard controlled substances and report any irregularities.
- Participate in medevac operations as necessary.
- Complete documentation and reports related to patient care and other EMS activities.
- Assist medical facility personnel when required.
- Respond to fire alarms, manage auxiliary equipment, deploy hoses, and utilize firefighting tools effectively.
- Operate emergency vehicles and report any discrepancies in equipment.
- Communicate effectively through radio and verbal channels as directed.
- Respond to vehicular accidents and perform extrication using specialized hydraulic tools.
- Demonstrate knowledge of rescue procedures and fire suppression techniques applicable to various environments.
- Provide standby support for aircraft operations as necessary.
- Maintain readiness of fire station and apparatus, ensuring all tools and equipment are operational.
- Conduct fire hydrant flow tests and maintain accurate records for departmental use.
- Participate in training drills and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform basic fire prevention tasks as required.
Qualifications
- Required Certifications: DoD (IFSAC) or Pro Board Firefighter II, Florida State Firefighter Minimum Standards, Florida State Paramedic, Emergency Vehicle Operator's Certificate, NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
- Within one year of hire: DoD (IFSAC) or Pro Board or Florida State Airport Firefighter, Technical Rescue Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations.
- Must possess and maintain American Heart Association certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Class E Florida state driver's license.
- Must meet all standards outlined in the Performance Work Statement.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance.
- Honorably discharged from the Armed Services (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete all required training and obtain necessary licenses and certifications.
- No history of illegal drug use or felony convictions.
- Must meet NASA Physical Certifications and pass psychological evaluations.
- Must be proficient in English, capable of understanding and applying written rules and instructions.
