Job Summary:
UPS Industrial is seeking an Industrial Superintendent with experience in Union environments. This role is pivotal in overseeing and managing all operations at a designated construction site, which includes daily project execution, workforce planning, coordinating the delivery of materials and equipment, and budget management. Superintendents are responsible for fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, quality, and professionalism, both directly and through the supervision of others. They offer guidance on constructability, collaborate with supervisory staff and subcontractors during project planning and execution, interpret technical drawings to synchronize various construction phases, address complaints and disputes, monitor work progress and quality, prepare and assess various reports, adjust work schedules as necessary, and communicate job status or issues to clients as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and train the project team, including both direct and indirect reports.
- Develop, maintain, and implement the project plan and schedule, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints while delivering high-quality work.
- Communicate effectively to meet performance, productivity, and safety standards.
- Collaborate closely with the construction/project manager and project team.
- Proactively identify and manage potential issues, work disruptions, and scheduling conflicts.
- Act as a liaison between field engineers, estimators, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and subcontractors, ensuring effective coordination.
- Track equipment usage and operational hours.
- Plan and develop the project schedule, identify critical paths, and foresee potential constructability challenges.
- Create and execute the Project Execution Plan and lookahead schedules.
- Follow up on Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, as-built documentation, and changes.
- Ensure the implementation of UPS's safety protocols.
- Oversee hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Understand and review contract terms and subcontracts.
- Develop strategies to identify and mitigate risks.
- Maximize opportunities to achieve financial objectives, including budgets, forecasts, and profitability.
- Build and maintain strong, customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Experience with Union environments is essential.
- A minimum of 10 years in Industrial Construction with progressive supervisory experience in the Refining, Petrochemical, or Power Generation sectors.
- Understanding of business practices and principles for expense monitoring.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with various industrial trades.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and other engineering documents.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution abilities, problem-solving skills, and professional judgment.
- Comprehensive understanding of productivity metrics, labor cost reports, and the ability to analyze cost reports.
- Capability to perform material, labor, and equipment takeoffs.
- In-depth knowledge of contract language with the ability to identify risks and leverage opportunities.
