Job Summary

The Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an experienced finance professional to fill the role of Senior Financial Specialist. This position will provide fiscal and budgetary support, as well as perform various financial duties, including procurement, financial management, and analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct financial analyses and assessments to support decision-making regarding resource allocation
  • Participate in the annual budget development process and make recommendations for the upcoming budget cycle
  • Work with the COO to realign budgets and assist the research administration team with monitoring research accounts
  • Provide guidance and training to researchers and staff on financial policies, procedures, and systems
  • Process financial transactions, monitor spending, and maintain awareness of programmatic issues
  • Reconcile assigned indexes on a monthly basis and verify the accuracy of data
  • Track spending on research awards and pilot funds
  • Work with the COO and SOM to accurately process journal vouchers and budget entries
  • Produce accurate and timely reports for leadership
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business preferred and 1 to 3 years of experience in a financial administrative role
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to analyze financial transactions for trends and variances
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills, including ability to adapt to frequent changes in work assignments and prioritize competing priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a large complex organization and effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals
