Key Qualifications

  • Certification as CPC, COSC, and/or CPMA (AAPC or AHIMA)
  • Expertise in Physician Charge Coding (CPT, HCPC, and ICD-10)
  • Experience in Orthopedic Surgery Procedure Coding

Candidates should be prepared to complete a coding assessment during the interview process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate documentation from inpatient and outpatient encounters and assign appropriate CPT, HCPC, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Post charges for services rendered as necessary.
  • Conduct audits of chart documentation to ensure coding accuracy and provide feedback to department leadership as required.
  • Make informed decisions regarding code assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Implement updates to coding procedures and educate staff on new coding practices.
  • Communicate professionally with physicians and other stakeholders to clarify coding information.
  • Provide training and guidance to physicians and staff on medical coding as needed.
  • Accurately code Hospital Physician Consultation and Emergency Room services, as well as Orthopedic Surgery services when required.
  • Familiarity with Infusion, Injection, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Massage Therapy, and various imaging modalities, along with physician services coding and documentation requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Active Certified Professional Coding Certificate
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent coding experience in outpatient physician services
  • At least two (2) years of experience in Evaluation and Management (E&M) services coding
  • Successful completion of the ICD-10 proficiency examination
