About This Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cost Expert to join our team at American Honda Motor Co. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to our Development and Manufacturing Divisions in executing sourcing and cost strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and approve new model and mass production RFQs, maker selections, annual cost reductions, supplier cost requests, and new supplier proposals for designated commodities.
  • Provide procurement team leadership and mentoring, contribute to determining priorities with the development teams, and aid in resolving critical supplier issues.
  • Judge the rationality and accuracy of piece and investment costs for a range of commodities through the review and approval of a high-volume of quotations and estimations.
  • Create supplier/part/commodity strategies through working collaboratively with buyers to develop actionable plans for realizing cost reduction, mitigation, and avoidance.
  • Approve proposals for maker layout selections from multiple buyers by considering numerous factors including quality, cost, delivery, development, and management.
  • Monitor product design changes with multiple buyers across several model developments to identify factors and decisions that could result in not achieving development cost targets.
  • Summarize complex cost roll-ups, conditions, and variables with input from buyers into comprehensible reports for management and project teams.
  • Instruct buyers on how and when to create exclusive tools and proprietary cost tables within area of responsibility.
  • Lead recovery activity of distressed supplier situations to support sustainable production.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business or closely related field or equivalency in procurement tenure and experience.
  • 10+ years procurement experience is necessary, preferably in Powersports or Automotive field. Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills are required.
Additional Position Factors
  • Travel: Average of 1-3 times monthly. Amount varies based on project demands/responsibilities, conferences, etc.; includes possible overseas travel.
  • Physical: Primarily works at a desk or scope; frequent keyboarding. Limited kneeling, standing, squatting, reaching or bending.
  • Hazards: Risks found in a typical office & shop setting. May be exposed to explosives/flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals and moving parts.
  • Overtime: Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.
