Job Title: Maintenance Specialist V (Camp Swift)

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Specialist V (Camp Swift) is responsible for performing advanced construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. This includes building maintenance, repair, and alteration. The incumbent may oversee the work of others and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor, working under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and perform building construction, repair, renovation, and restoration projects.
  • Perform administrative functions required to support the Planning Resources for Infrastructure Development and Evaluation (PRIDE) data base work order system.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, or inspection work on electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning (HVAC) to include installation of mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect structures, evaluate work performed, and determine the best method for performing maintenance and repair work.
  • Inspect equipment, machinery, systems, building accessories, and appliances to ensure proper maintenance and repair.
  • Examine and interpret drawings, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Maintain and repair doors, locks, panic hardware, hinges, frames, automatic door devices, tracks, springs, and closures.
  • Maintain and repair electrical outlets, control panels, switches, fixtures, and accessories.
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical components of equipment.
  • Identify defects in wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements.
  • Maintain records of material used, calculate materials, and provide material lists to supervisor for procurement.
  • Repair or oversee repair to electronic equipment.
  • Coordinate and perform workshop operations to fabricate specialized items needed for project work.
  • Perform welding, brazing, or soldering operations to reconstruct or fabricate metalwork.
  • Oversee the work of others.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
  • Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies and procedures handbook.
  • May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, to include on holidays and weekends.
Requirements:

Education: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required.

Experience: Four years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work is required. Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word is required.

Preferred Experience: Vocational training in a designated trade is preferred. Experience performing electrical, (HVAC), plumbing maintenance, and millwright maintenance is preferred.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure: A valid driver's license is required. *If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required to drive state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business. Electrical, (HVAC), or plumbing certification is preferred.

Other Requirements: The candidate must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC). The selected candidate must pass a federal security background investigation, which includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3) days of being hired. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of building materials, plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning (HVAC); welding, brazing, and soldering; maintenance techniques; and construction practices and terminology. Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; verbally expressing information in a clear and concise manner; and operation of computers using Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access. Ability to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in the maintenance and repair of buildings and related equipment; diagnose complex systems: Plumbing, electrical, heating and air condition (HVAC); read and interpret drawings, diagrams, and blueprints; establish effective working relationships; and work in a military environment.

Physical/Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, incumbent may be exposed to normal office temperatures and noise. When outside, incumbent may be required to work in seasonal inclement weather. Work typically involves standing, walking, and working with hand and power tools for an extended period. Frequently lifts, carries, moves, and/or sets up equipment and materials that weigh up to 100 (lbs.). Must be able to lift/carry 50 (lbs.) of field gear and be able to perform fieldwork that sometimes involves walking long distances and exposure to potential hazards (heat, rain, insects, snakes, etc.).
