This role involves estimating costs for heavy civil infrastructure projects, encompassing a variety of tasks such as removals, grading, concrete work, and other related activities. The position requires close collaboration with fellow estimators, project managers, and the Chief Estimator. A keen attention to detail, along with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and geotechnical reports; participate in pre-bid meetings, and assess site conditions through on-site evaluations. Identify both self-performed and subcontracted work scopes.
  • Engage subcontractors and material suppliers, including outreach to diverse business enterprises (DBE) or small business enterprises (SBE). Create bid packages for various subcontractor and material supplier scopes and distribute requests for quotes (RFQs).
  • Efficiently prepare cost estimates by conducting take-offs, organizing estimate files, and developing activities and logic within the Heavy Bid (HCSS) estimating software.
  • Input subcontractor and material supplier quotes into HCSS and finalize awards.
  • Facilitate bid reviews with the Chief Estimator and management team prior to submission deadlines.
  • Make informed decisions, finalize bids, and submit required documentation to owners or agencies under the guidance of the Chief Estimator.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil or roadway estimating, including expertise in removals, grading, concrete structures, aggregate placement, and airport runways.
  • At least 5 years of estimating experience utilizing software such as Bid2Win HCCS, Heavy Bid, AGTEK, OST, P6, Excel, or similar tools.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
