Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Nutritionist/Registered Dietitian to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our nutrition services team, you will be responsible for providing complex nutrition services to our consumers, including training staff and family members, assessing nutritional status, and developing special therapeutic menus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy for ambulatory and medically fragile consumers
  • Evaluate nutritional status and develop, implement, and evaluate nutritional care plans
  • Prepare and review reports for consumers, including quarterly and annual updates
  • Develop individualized complex therapeutic menus, modified in nutrients and/or texture, as needed to meet special medical/physical needs of consumers
  • Function as a member of the Inter-Disciplinary Team, the Physical and Nutritional Management Team, and other clinically related teams in developing care plans for individuals at moderate to high nutritional risk
  • Counsel and train consumers, staff, and families on nutritional principles, modified diet plans, and food selection
  • Consult with the food service department to provide accurate and timely information on menu changes, special diets, and food textures
  • Approve menu changes for compliance with regulations and nutrient standards
  • Develop and conduct in-service training for staff on nutrition principles, therapeutic diets, and related subjects
  • Participate in Quality Assurance audits and on-going monitoring related to Nutrition Services, Meal Service, or other disciplines
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year university or college plus completion of a dietetic internship
  • Knowledge of food and nutrition, food systems management, food science, and nutrition needs related to population
  • Ability to counsel and train others in food and nutrition, evaluate and communicate nutrition needs, and interact effectively with consumers, families, and staff
  • Ability to work with various teams, interpret regulations, policies, and procedures, and perform basic and complex math calculations
  • Functional skills and knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and how to electronically store files/documents on a computer
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and maintain confidentiality. The successful candidate will be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
