Principal Surety Underwriting Specialist

Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. is seeking a seasoned Commercial Surety Underwriting Officer at the AVP or VP level to enhance our Commercial Surety division within the Southern Region. While we prefer candidates to be located in major cities, we are open to considering remote options within the Southern Region.

The Commercial Surety Underwriter plays a pivotal role in the underwriting landscape. In this capacity, you will manage accounts, drive business growth, and conduct thorough analyses of a complex portfolio of Commercial Surety Accounts. The ideal candidate will possess a proactive attitude, a robust financial background with expertise in credit analysis, exceptional communication and presentation skills, and strong time management abilities. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to refine your negotiation skills while utilizing the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework.

• Actively pursue renewal and new account opportunities.
• Assess accounts to align with organizational appetite while balancing sound business opportunities.
• Negotiate terms and conditions effectively to finalize agreements.
• Cross-sell additional lines of business to enhance product density.
• Maintain accurate records of broker/client interactions and account statuses.
• Utilize underwriting tools to calculate target pricing accurately.
• Identify and propose solutions for unique business unit and customer challenges.
• Exhibit specialized knowledge and expertise in relevant products and industry standards.
• Oversee adherence to underwriting rules, insurance regulations, and rating manuals.
• Handle assignments at the highest authority limits, demonstrating technical complexity and coordination.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years in Underwriting, Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in Underwriting, Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience in a collaborative team environment.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7+ years in Underwriting or Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 14+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years in Underwriting or Market Facing.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.

• Bachelor's Degree.
• Experience in Surety and knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks.
• Understanding of broker relationship structures.
• Ability to analyze complex credit assessments and trends.
• Curiosity to investigate business strategies and complex contracts.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
