Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. is seeking a seasoned Commercial Surety Underwriting Officer at the AVP or VP level to enhance our Commercial Surety division within the Southern Region. While we prefer candidates based in Houston or Dallas, we are open to considering other key locations in the Southern Region.
Role ResponsibilitiesThe Commercial Surety Underwriter plays a critical role in the underwriting sector. In this capacity, you will manage accounts, drive business growth, and analyze a sophisticated portfolio of Commercial Surety Accounts. Our ideal candidate will possess a proactive attitude, a robust financial background with expertise in credit analysis, and exceptional communication and presentation abilities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Actively pursuing renewal and new account opportunities.
- Assessing accounts to align with the organization's strategic goals while ensuring sound business practices.
- Negotiating terms and conditions to successfully close deals.
- Cross-selling additional lines of business to enhance product engagement with clients.
- Updating necessary systems with details from broker/client interactions and account progress within designated timelines.
- Accurately calculating target pricing using appropriate underwriting tools.
- Identifying and proposing solutions for unique challenges faced by business units and clients.
- Exhibiting specialized knowledge and expertise in products and industry standards.
- Overseeing and enforcing underwriting rules, regulations, and rating manuals.
- Working within the highest authority limits on assignments that require significant technical complexity and coordination.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years of experience in Underwriting, Market Facing, Finance, Accounting, or Banking.
- Or, 10+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support.
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in relevant fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and understanding of time constraints for quotes.
- Experience in a collaborative team environment.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
- Or, 14+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years in relevant fields.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Experience in Surety and familiarity with legal and regulatory guidelines.
- Understanding of broker relationship structures.
- Ability to analyze complex credit assessments and trends.
- Strong investigative skills to understand business strategies and obligations.
- Capability to articulate financial concepts and recommendations effectively.
- Prior experience in managing a profitable customer portfolio.
- Negotiation experience with brokers and large organizations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
