Chemical Laboratory Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Chemical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Colgate-Palmolive. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing chemical and physical testing on raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished product samples to ensure quality and safety for our consumers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform analytical testing of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Conduct physical and chemical testing in accordance with standard procedures, using wet-chemistry and basic instrumental techniques.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebooks and records.
- Work collaboratively with the laboratory team to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Understand and accurately follow standard operating procedures, global methods, local methods, and published standard methods.
- Provide training to employees on new and existing standard operating procedures.
- Support operations personnel with analytical equipment and testing procedures.
- Operate and perform basic troubleshooting on analytical instruments, including HPLC, Autotitrator, Karl Fischer, NIR, UV-Vis, and FTIR.
- Responsible for daily and monthly instrument calibrations to ensure all instruments are working properly.
- Support laboratory equipment validations by performing or assisting vendors with Installation Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ), and Performance Qualifications (PQ) protocols.
- Assist the manufacturing site with product, equipment, and Cleaning & Sanitizing (C&S) validations by performing all required tests.
- Participate in Out of Specification (OOS) investigations to collect vital samples and information to complete Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIR).
- Supports, maintains, and reviews data to identify trends and draw conclusions.
- Understand and apply basic laboratory safety instructions, reagent handling precautions, and disposal of chemical waste according to local environmental regulations.
Requirements:
- Associates degree in Chemistry with at least 2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory.
- Solid understanding and practical experience with cGMP and FDA regulations in a chemistry laboratory environment.
- Familiar with quality systems, including Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIR), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), calibration, validation, change control, etc.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to gather relevant information efficiently and apply logic in solving problems and making decisions.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and adapt to circumstances as needed.
- Results-oriented and sets a positive example for conducting business in an ethical manner.
- Proficient knowledge of computer and computer software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related sciences major.
- 1+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic, or consumer products industries.
- Experience with common analytical laboratory instrumentation, including HPLC, NIR, Autotitrators, Karl Fischer, UV-Vis, and FTIR.
Compensation and Benefits:
Colgate-Palmolive offers a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $82,500 per year, based on experience, job-related knowledge, and education. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options. Salaried employees are also eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including insurance, retirement plans, vacation/PTO, paid holidays, paid sick leave, and paid parental leave.
