Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist III to join our team at ProMedica Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine and complex analytical procedures, recognizing deviations, and providing interpretation following established standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform testing, including maintaining established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, complying with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies, processing biological specimens for analysis, and evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing.
  • Maintain equipment, including performing scheduled maintenance procedures, recognizing equipment malfunctions, and acting according to established protocols.
  • Ensure quality control, including performing, recording, and maintaining accurate quality control records, recognizing out-of-control results, and taking appropriate actions.
  • Provide knowledge and support, including answering inquiries regarding results and factors affecting results, acting as a liaison and fostering effective communication between the laboratory and healthcare team, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Utilize computer systems, including performing routine inquiry and data input, ensuring accuracy of information, and being responsible for corrective actions.
Requirements
  • Doctoral, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of clinical experience, with a preference for 4 years of experience in the specialty area to qualify as a Technical Supervisor.
  • Certification as an American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLS or Categorical.
Working Conditions

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment, tolerate exposure to disease-bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids. The ability to move continuously about the hospital and between workstations, and to input and retrieve information from computer systems, is also required.
