Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist III to join our team at ProMedica Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing complex analytical procedures, interpreting results, and providing technical expertise to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Testing and Quality Control: Perform routine and complex analytical procedures, maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform scheduled maintenance procedures, recognize equipment malfunctions, and direct maintenance protocols.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform, record, and maintain accurate quality control records, recognize out-of-control results, and take appropriate actions.
  • Knowledge Resource: Answer inquiries regarding results and factors affecting results, act as a liaison between the laboratory and healthcare team, and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Computer Systems: Perform routine inquiry and data input on laboratory computer systems, ensure accuracy of information, and take corrective actions.
  • Training and Competency Assessment: Instruct new associates and students, assess competencies of other test performers, and participate in the development of competency assessment tools.
  • Continuing Education: Complete required continuing education units, mandatory in-services, and maintain personal professional development.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Provide guidance to coworkers, act as a role model, and promote good customer service practices.
Requirements
  • Education: Doctoral, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLS or Categorical certification.
  • Experience: 2 years of clinical experience, with a preference for 4 years of experience in a specialty area.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to move continuously about the hospital and between workstations, with prolonged periods of standing. You must be able to tolerate exposure to disease-bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids. You must also be able to differentiate colors and input and retrieve information from computer systems.
