Key Responsibilities- Design and develop projects in collaboration with project managers, engineers, and other designers.
- Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
- Coordinate with other organizations affected by design development.
- Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.
- Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
- 2 years relevant experience with Bachelor's in related field; or 0 years experience with Master's in related field.
- Candidate must have experience working on ships.
- Candidate must have strong proficiency in 2D & 3D AutoCAD.
- Candidate must have experience with testing and analysis of products and systems.
- Candidate must have excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Candidate must have strong problem-solving skills.
- Candidate must have knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
- Candidate must have the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Candidate must have familiarity with shipboard systems, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Candidate must have proven ability to work effectively in challenging and dynamic environments.
- Familiarity with IDEA CAD Standards.
- Prior experience working with NNS, NNSY, Ingalls, and PSNS Shipyards.
- Proficiency in using FEMAP software to create and analyze finite element models, perform simulations, and generate reports.
- Knowledge and experience using Nastran software for finite element analysis, including model creation, simulation, and post-processing.
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor software for 3D modeling, assembly design, and engineering documentation.
- Proficiency in using SolidWorks software for 3D modeling, simulation, and design analysis, as well as creating technical drawings and documentation.
The ideal candidate will be able to work in an office, industrial, or shipboard environment. The candidate must be capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances during site surveys. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift. Must be able to perform site surveys and carry a laptop computer.
