Key Responsibilities

The Lead Instrument Technician Certified is accountable for the meticulous care, sanitation, handling, and reprocessing of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This position entails the decontamination of instruments and equipment in accordance with hospital protocols and regulatory standards. The technician is responsible for assembling and packaging trays for sterilization, adhering to established procedures, and proficiently operating sterilization equipment.

Utilizing expertise in instrumentation, blood and body fluid safety protocols, disinfection methods, and sterilization techniques, the technician performs quality assurance checks and maintains accurate documentation in line with organizational policies.

This role also includes the coordination and assembly of surgical case carts. The technician will ensure the accuracy of inventory lists for trays and surgeon preference cards, completing all necessary documentation. Responsibilities extend to reviewing instrument and supply inventories, restocking as needed, proactively identifying supply requirements for specific surgical cases, and assisting with sterilization processes in the operating room.

As the lead technician on each shift, this position prioritizes tasks and oversees the assembly of surgical case carts. The technician will perform complex tasks and provide training to new staff, acting as a mentor to fellow technicians. Additionally, the technician will contribute to the development of expert-level trays and support process improvements within the department. Scheduling shift coverage may also be part of the responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Sterile Processing is required.
  • Familiarity with surgical terminology, instrumentation, and medical supplies is essential. Basic computer skills are necessary, along with experience in sterile processing and case cart management.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Required Certifications

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
