Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, you will play a critical role in conducting various technical procedures in the Core Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a broad range of laboratory procedures, including specimen processing, method development, testing across multiple areas such as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, immunoassay, and blood gases.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments, perform quality control, calibration, reagent preparation, and data entry.
  • Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis, taking into account physiologic processes and requirements.
  • Diagnose deviations in test performance due to instrument malfunction and perform corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with rules and regulations of assorted regulatory agencies, such as College of American Pathologist (CAP), The Joint Commission (TJC), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Communicate effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member and provide excellent service as defined by the customer (healthcare providers, patients, and others).

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science or in a related science (laboratory sciences such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, and immunology).
  • Completion of a medical technology clinical practice program.
  • Two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience within the last ten years as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC), American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP-BOR) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control and assurance procedures and principles of performance improvement in order to manage reagent and supply inventories and document control systems.
  • Ability to use independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results.

Working Conditions

This position is Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, with rotation of weekends.
