Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Instrument Room Lead Technician, responsible for decontamination, cleaning, sorting, tray assembly, and sterilization of medical instruments. Maintains knowledge of instruments functions and ensures proper storage and handling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontamination and Cleaning:

Performs decontamination and cleaning of medical instruments using appropriate methods and protocols.

Instrument Processing:

Inspects and processes medical instruments, ensuring they are properly stored and handled.

Sterilization:

Performs sterilization of medical instruments, monitoring and handling them with care.

Professional Practice:

Demonstrates accountability and maintains professional competence in medical instrument management.

Teamwork:

Collaborates with colleagues in a professional manner, maintaining a collaborative team approach.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year hospital experience
  • Working Conditions: Protective clothing may be required, exposure to risk of blood-borne diseases
  • Social Conditions: Must be able to work alone or with others
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform physical tasks such as carrying equipment and supplies
  • Cognitive Demands: Requires good organization, planning, and problem-solving skills

Required Certification:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

Work Environment:

Medical instrument processing and sterilization environment.
