Job Summary

This is an open continuous announcement for Podiatrists within the VA North Texas Health Care System to express interest in reassignment to different Podiatrist positions within the VANTXHCS.

Responsibilities
  • Apply professional theories, assessment methods, and techniques to care for ill patients and those with podiatric medical and surgical problems.
  • Develop coherent treatment strategies, incorporate new clinical procedures, and provide professional advice and consultation in care areas related to treatment of podiatric conditions.
  • Effectively supervise and manage professional staff, especially students and residents, and correctly assess qualifications and abilities of current and prospective employees.
  • Interact with individuals or groups representing various clinical services, specialties, and departments, and work effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Diagnose and treat medical and surgical disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care.
  • Perform a wide variety of podiatric surgical procedures, including operating room duties, in-patient rounds, emergency room, and outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in surgical quality/performance improvement initiatives and podiatry night call, and perform emergency podiatric surgical procedures.
  • Provide patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen, and assess Veterans' risks and benefits associated with surgical procedures.
  • Complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting, and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner, including outcomes reporting.
Requirements
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  • Residency Training: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Licensure & Registration: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
  • Physical Requirements: See outlined below.
  • English Language Proficiency: Podiatrist appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Preferred Experience

Board certification with either the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) or the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) is preferred.
