FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt

Pay:
$36.14 per hour

Work Schedule:
Four ten-hour days from May 1 to November 1.
Five eight-hour days from November 1 to May 1.

Benefits:
Fourteen paid holidays per year.

SUMMARY:


Under the direct supervision of the Highway Superintendent, the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is tasked with executing skilled and semi-skilled mechanical tasks in the upkeep of all County vehicles and equipment.

*Must be available 24/7 if required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct welding, fabrication, and repairs on highway vehicles and equipment.
2. Maintain comprehensive maintenance records for all County vehicles and equipment.
3. Repair and service all County vehicles and equipment.
4. Provide oversight and guidance to other County personnel engaged in maintenance activities.
5. Utilize diagnostic testing equipment to ensure operational efficiency of equipment.
6. Operate various machinery as necessary.
7. Plan and manage work schedules effectively.
8. Keep inventory and parts records updated.
9. Order, retrieve, and deliver parts, supplies, and equipment as required.
10. Maintain a clean and organized workshop environment.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Act as Safety Coordinator.
2. Perform tasks in accordance with safe practices.
3. Attend meetings and training sessions as assigned.
4. Execute other essential duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certification and a two-year degree in Diesel Mechanics.
2. At least two (2) years of mechanical experience or a combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
3. Valid South Dakota Class A Commercial Driver's License.
4. Basic understanding of procedures, techniques, and standards related to highway and roadway maintenance and construction.
5. Proficiency in using various shop tools, welding, and machine shop equipment.
6. Ability to read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, and written procedures.
7. Capability to work independently without direct supervision.
8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

EXAMINATION, TESTING, AND CERTIFICATION:
1. Valid social security number.
2. Pass post-offer Drug and/or Alcohol testing and random DOT testing.
3. Complete all state-required training/exams/certifications.
4. Other relevant exams as mandated by the County.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
2. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
2. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, electrical hazards, and vibrations.
3. High noise levels in the work environment.
