Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse (RN) on our Comprehensive Medical Unit, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team at Inova Health System.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Comprehensive Patient Assessments: Perform thorough health assessments, interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships to inform individualized care plans.
  • Develop and Implement Care Plans: Formulate and implement plans of care based on assessment findings, ensuring best practices and achieving desired patient outcomes.
  • Provide Patient-Centered Care: Deliver care in a patient and family-centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care.
  • Advocate for Patients' Rights: Advocate for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective, providing counsel and support to resolve issues and promote patient well-being.
  • Coordinate Care and Services: Access resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes, coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning, and document all patient care activities.
  • Evaluate and Improve Care Processes: Evaluate the process to achieve outcomes, anticipate patient variances, and make revisions to plans of care to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others, demonstrating respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines.
  • Provide Education and Support: Assist staff in assessing patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education, providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice, and serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor.
  • Utilize Standards and Guidelines: Utilize standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery, ensuring that the process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology, and other healthcare team member collaboration.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement: Evaluate clinical and quality outcomes and contribute to performance improvement initiatives, demonstrating evidence of self-development through ongoing education and training.
Requirements
  • Certification: Basic Life Support certification; for Critical Care units, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification within 6 months of hire; for Pediatric units, Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 6 months of hire; for Infusion Center units, obtain chemo card within 3 months of hire.
  • Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license.
  • Experience: 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, for Critical Care units, 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Associate's Degree. If RN has an Associate's Degree, within 2 years of date of hire, they must meet with their nurse leader and conduct the following: 1.) Identify which accredited school they plan to attend 2.) Provide a written plan with anticipated BSN completion date 3.) Submit a review of transcripts from the school indicating the required pre-requisites and timeline for taking the courses 4.) Complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
