Position Overview

Red Rocks Community College invites applications for a full-time faculty role within our Communication Department. This position is a full-time, 164-day academic year appointment, focusing on the Fall and Spring semesters. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, engaging in professional development, and fulfilling service commitments as outlined by the Colorado Community College System and Red Rocks Community College. The faculty role encompasses two primary components: teaching responsibilities, which may include program coordination and development, and professional development and service commitments.
Key Responsibilities

Instruction: Deliver courses during the day, evening, or weekend, utilizing various modalities such as in-person, hybrid, remote, or online formats, ensuring alignment with approved course outcomes. Instructional duties emphasize teaching excellence, which includes:
  • Implementing culturally responsive education and inclusive learning environments.
  • Demonstrating measurable equity and inclusion skills that support student learning outcomes.
  • Encouraging active student engagement to foster critical thinking and achievement of academic and personal goals.
  • Providing robust instructional content that is relevant and thought-provoking.
  • Conducting meaningful assessments and providing timely feedback on student progress.
  • Continuously improving teaching and learning through evidence-based practices and collaboration.
Service: Engage in activities that support the mission and goals of the College outside the classroom, including:
  • Departmental service, including curriculum coordination and development.
  • Advising and outreach initiatives.
  • Administrative responsibilities and committee participation at various levels.
  • Involvement in student activities or community service events related to the College.
Professional development is also a critical component of service, which includes:
  • Enhancing teaching practices.
  • Staying current with best practices in higher education.
  • Maintaining expertise in the field.
  • Engaging in personal enrichment related to higher education leadership.
Additional responsibilities may involve representing the College on local boards, making community presentations, or serving as a liaison to local educational institutions.
Qualifications

Required:
  • A master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Communication from an accredited institution.
  • Fifteen semester credit hours of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experience in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, or academic advising.
Preferred:
  • Three years of teaching and academic leadership experience in a community college or similar environment.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and supporting underrepresented students and staff.
  • Experience in program and curriculum development.
  • Proficiency in teaching with technology and alternative formats.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work on campus and engage with the community.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to employ traditional and alternative instructional methods.
  • Skill in integrating technology into the learning environment.
  • Knowledge of instructional objectives and course development.
  • Ability to manage and deliver courses effectively.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems.
