Role Overview
The Emergency and Critical Care Nurse collaborates with the ECC team to ensure optimal patient care and effective communication with pet owners. You will work under the direct supervision of board-certified specialists and a team of practice managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with fellow nurses, assistants, veterinarians, and management to ensure exemplary care for patients and their families.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and possess strategic, forward, and critical thinking abilities.
- Utilize nursing skills including proper animal restraint, vital signs monitoring, anesthesia oversight, intubation, catheter placement, phlebotomy, treatment administration, and medication delivery.
- Monitor and care for patients using advanced equipment and established protocols.
- Understand anesthetic protocols for surgical procedures and manage anesthesia during these cases.
- Operate in-house laboratory machines, send samples for external testing, and perform radiographic imaging.
- Conduct triage and effectively communicate estimates for diagnostics, procedures, and treatments to clients.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Possess a solid understanding of medical terminology, common disease processes, and medical emergencies.
- Assist in cleaning, stocking, and maintaining hospital equipment.
- Provide thoughtful and compassionate communication with pet owners and referring veterinarians.
- Experience with CT scans, ventilators, TPE, and Central/PICC lines is advantageous.
- Familiarity with safety standards across all areas of the veterinary practice.
- Proficient in safe animal handling and restraint techniques for procedures and treatments.

Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology; certification is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine, with at least one year in emergency care.
- Exceptional patient care and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with EzyVet and VetRadar software is a plus.
