Nuclear Reactor Field Engineer

Job Description:
This is a challenging position that requires a dynamic individual to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO).
The position offers significant autonomy and is a growth and development opportunity that allows for technical qualification in Integrated Plant Testing and Refueling Services.
As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting highly visible work with a broad spectrum of responsibility, including technical support, consultation, and oversight through the performance of installation, testing, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment and nuclear systems.
The position requires engagement in a shipboard industrial environment meeting directly with ship's force, senior shipyard leadership, and Naval Reactors.
Field engineers are proactive in identifying and preventing problems to avoid impacts to cost and ship delivery schedules.
They provide technical direction for problem resolution and oversee compliance with contractual requirements.
Our engineers research, evaluate, and recommend new products and equipment upgrades as necessary.
The position is ideal for a candidate who is eager to learn and adapt to varying tasks and responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical support, consultation, and oversight through the performance of installation, testing, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment and nuclear systems.
- Engage in a shipboard industrial environment meeting directly with ship's force, senior shipyard leadership, and Naval Reactors.
- Proactive in identifying and preventing problems to avoid impacts to cost and ship delivery schedules.
- Provide technical direction for problem resolution and oversee compliance with contractual requirements.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new products and equipment upgrades as necessary.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 2 years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 1 year of relevant experience.
- Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program.
- SRE qualified.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience in applying innovative solutions to resolve problems/improve performance.
- Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program operational or design experience is desired but not required.
- Strong leadership and mentoring ability.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to varying tasks and responsibilities.
- Experience working with US Navy Nuclear Fleet and/or nuclear capable shipyard.

Pay Range:
$76,000.00 to $117,000.00 annually
Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities:
- Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory
- Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory
- Kenneth A. Kesselring Site
- Naval Reactors Facility
- Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston
FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations.
