Asbestos Program and Safety Manager

The Asbestos Program and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing all campus-initiated asbestos, lead, and mold testing, as well as contractor interface and record keeping. This role also involves direction and authorization of testing for asbestos suspected materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to requests for information from regulatory agencies and other stakeholders
- Prepare and present asbestos abatement information sessions to building occupants
- Maintain accurate records of all tested asbestos and lead abated materials
- Ensure compliance with abatement and Code Rule 56 regulations by contractors
- Provide advice and support to senior management and other stakeholders
- Maintain necessary certifications and training
- Participate in defining contract requirements for asbestos testing and monitoring
- Track progress of asbestos abatement projects and resolve potential problems
- Administer electrical safety and respirator programs
- Coordinate yearly inspections of campus buildings by the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control
Requirements:
- Associates degree in construction engineering, construction management, occupational safety, industrial engineering, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field
- Experience with NYS Code Rule 56 and possession of an Asbestos Handling Certificate, Class G (Supervisor) and Asbestos Monitor Certificate
- A minimum of 3 years experience keeping asbestos records in a multi-building environment
- Valid driver's license to operate a vehicle in NYS
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers at all levels and enforce code requirements in a professional manner
- Strong administrative qualities; ability to work independently, set priorities/schedules
- Knowledge of building code and related codes
- Ability to use MS Office products including Excel and Word; ability to learn and use CMMP program (Maximo)
- Ability to read/understand construction documents
- Knowledge of OSHA general industry standards and the hazard assessment process
- Possession of OSHA 10 Training certification or the ability to obtain one within 18 months of hire
- Ability to work weekends and off-shifts
- Experience with hazard assessment process
- Ability to research complex codes and produce detailed reports, performance inspections as scheduled, and establish/maintain detailed inspection reports in electronic and hard copy formats
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in construction engineering, construction management, occupational safety, industrial engineering, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field
- Possession of current Asbestos Management Planner Certificate
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E
