Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing high-quality echocardiographic studies on adult patients with known and suspected cardiac anomalies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and record accurate, high-quality echocardiographic scans of the heart for the purpose of identifying the presence or absence of cardiac abnormalities.
  • Calculate accurate measurements of cardiac structures, utilizing both online and offline analysis systems, during various testing modalities ordered by the physician.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment, including proper transducer selection, pre and post-processing settings, 2D and Doppler gain settings.
  • Communicate with cardiologists on echocardiographic studies, discussing any questions regarding each patient study as required.
  • Recognize acquired cardiac malformations and provide the appropriate echocardiographic documentation.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 1 year, or Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS within 1 year.
  • Ability to work independently, with established time constraints, and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply ultrasonic principles and instrumentation, Doppler echocardiographic technique, and cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to work with ancillary departments, participate in professional development, and contribute to a CQI atmosphere.
Working Conditions

Incumbent may be exposed to blood/body fluids or isolation precautions. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
