About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Event Steward to join our team at Union Project and Kelly Strayhorn Theater.

Job Overview

The Event Steward will be responsible for providing top-quality customer service to our patrons, artists, and visitors at three locations: Union Project, Kelly Strayhorn Theater, and Alloy Studios.

You will work closely with our events team to ensure seamless execution of public and private events, including setup, break-down, ticketing, box office management, house management, hospitality services, and facility maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Greet and welcome patrons, artists, and guests, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Act as a proactive liaison for event space renters, addressing questions and seeking assistance when needed.
  • Assist with setup and maintain event spaces throughout events, including AV equipment.
  • Keep event spaces clean and stocked with necessary supplies, including restrooms.
  • Record audience counts and collect audience surveys.
  • Act as an usher, safely leading patrons of varied abilities to seating.
  • Complete detailed event reports at the close of each event.
  • Coordinate and supervise volunteers.
  • Track and reconcile box office, concession sales, and donations received following each event.
  • Ensure event safety protocols and emergency procedures are followed.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Cash handling experience with fastidious attention to detail and security.

  • Experience working alongside and/or guiding volunteers.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and able to stand, stretch, bend, and lift up to 30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications

We also prefer candidates with:

  • An interest or background in the performing arts.
  • Previous customer service or hospitality experience.
  • The ability to demonstrate skill in handling patron/artist concerns.
  • The ability to resolve problems in a fast-paced, moving environment.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $15 per hour, paid on an hourly basis for events attended.
