Process Optimization Manager

Amalgamated Sugar Company is on the lookout for a Process Optimization Manager to enhance our operational processes and ensure maximum efficiency in production. This pivotal role involves collaborating with Plant Management to refine processes, aiming for optimal recovery rates while minimizing costs. The individual will lead a dedicated team to drive process enhancements across the factory.

The Process Optimization Manager will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility, while also striving for operational excellence. Responsibilities include the development and management of the Company's Production Plan, Syrup Movement Plan, and Granulated Sugar Plan. The position requires monitoring factory operations in line with established protocols and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide engineering initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the training department to ensure training materials are current and focus on optimization strategies and tools.
  • Oversee Process Hazard Assessments (PHAs) to maintain safety and efficiency.
  • Provide leadership to Process Engineers to enhance throughput and extraction while reducing operational costs.
  • Deliver technical training to factory and engineering teams.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects across various factory sectors.
  • Work closely with Operating and Maintenance Departments to plan and execute new improvement initiatives.
  • Offer operational expertise to project engineers for new developments, including the creation of PFDs, P&IDs, and control narratives.
  • Ensure all products meet safety and quality standards.
  • Optimize chemical processes and evaluate new process aids for cost-effectiveness.
  • Engage teams in developing advanced control strategies for process enhancement.
  • Facilitate cross-factory knowledge sharing to promote best practices and technical learning.
  • Manage and mentor engineering staff, guiding their professional growth.
  • Maintain and distribute process area performance metrics and KPI reports.
  • Develop and refine process optimization models for the factory.
  • Assess and recommend cleaning strategies for equipment to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with reliability and maintenance teams to boost equipment uptime.
  • Conduct specialized testing to evaluate process efficiencies and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Resolve issues with external agencies in the absence of management.
  • Supervise and motivate assigned employees, ensuring effective task prioritization.
  • Support maintenance teams as necessary.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to various management levels and industry conferences.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or a related field.
  • 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in process optimization, preferably in the food industry.
  • Experience in petrochemical, pulp and paper, or chemical manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in process modeling and data historian tools is essential.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and training will be considered.
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
