Job Description

The George Washington University is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Specialist I to join our team. As a key member of our research group, you will be responsible for developing knowledge bases and bioinformatics tools. Your primary duties will include data investigation, interpretation, and analysis for research initiatives, as well as contributing to the development of data analysis tools and web resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing backend systems for data management and processing
  • Assisting in the testing and development of portals, software, and workflows
  • Maintaining and updating portals and knowledge bases
  • Assisting in the submission of datasets to collaborators and sponsors
  • Biocuration of glycans, proteins, genes, and omics data
  • Writing specification documentation for research projects and generating frontend mockups
  • Using GitHub, Slack, and similar tools for communication

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Basic understanding of biology and biological databases
  • Background in chemistry and/or analytical chemistry
  • Experience in programming/scripting, web frameworks, database management, and software testing

Working Conditions:

This is a hybrid position, with the employee working on-site and remotely. The employee will be required to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm.
