We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-time Mechanic Assistant. This is a temporary, part-time position with a maximum of 20 work hours per week.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the repairs and maintenance of electric vehicle systems under the guidance of a Journeyman mechanic.
- Clean, oil, grease, wash, and polish vehicles.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections on buses.
- Dismantle and prepare vehicle equipment for general repairs.
- Clean and assemble tools.
- Assist in changing and repairing tires, checking and installing batteries.
- Clean the workshop and garage and arrange the storeroom.
- Perform the duties of a Bus Utility Worker when needed.
- Make unassisted trade-outs that do not require mechanical repairs.
- Some knowledge of the principles of bus mechanics and common practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the trade.
- Ability to do semi-skilled mechanical repair tasks and make routine mechanical installations and adjustments.
- Ability to understand and carry out simple written and oral instructions.
- Skill in the routine use of standard tools of the mechanic trade.
- Ability to lift, bend, and twist as necessary to remove, repair, or recondition and replace body parts, interior parts, suspension parts, and glass.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to fluids and solvents used in vehicle repair work.
- Ability to perform continuous manual and physical labor while standing on a cement floor.
- Ability to lift and carry bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds (heavier objects with the assistance of another person).
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of pressure using tools that tighten, loosen, or cut.
- Ability to work independently on the night shift.
- Ability to provide own hand tools and storage cabinet should job assignment require the use of tools on a regular basis.
- Valid Kansas Driver's License with no restrictions.
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply information contained in technical repair manuals.
- 1 year experience in servicing and assisting in the repair of vehicular equipment or actively enrolled in automotive repair technical school.
- Completion of mechanical trade courses such as automotive technology, diesel mechanics, vehicle maintenance and repair, heavy equipment mechanics, brake systems, or related courses.
- A minimum of two years of unrestricted licensed driving experience.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
