Job Description

The Department of History at Wake Forest University is seeking a highly qualified and accomplished scholar to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in African-American history. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated educator and researcher to join our vibrant academic community and contribute to the growth and development of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach introductory-level survey courses, as well as upper-level history courses in the candidate's area of specialization
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching methods to engage students and promote academic excellence
  • Conduct research and publish scholarly articles in the field of African-American history
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and mentorship of students
Requirements
  • PhD in History or a related field by July 1, 2025
  • Strong research and teaching record, with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to teach a range of courses, including introductory-level surveys and upper-level seminars
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong research agenda, with a focus on African-American history and culture
  • Ability to contribute to departmental and university initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
