Endoscopy Nurse Specialist Job Description

Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida is seeking a skilled Endoscopy Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our endoscopy unit, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to our mission of providing exceptional healthcare services.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient and family education on endoscopic procedures and post-procedure care.
  • Prepare the endoscopy room with necessary medications and equipment.
  • Utilize accessory devices, including biopsy forceps, snares, and guidewires, under the guidance of a physician.
  • Evaluate and assess patient's cardio-respiratory status during moderate sedation and intervene as necessary.
  • Perform initial vital signs and admission history, including introduction to the patient and family, and notification of the physician within 15 minutes of arrival.
  • Conduct a comprehensive nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors, to develop a plan of care.
  • Respond to diagnostic data and initiate appropriate action or intervention.
  • Assess patient education needs on arrival and discharge.
  • Assess psychological needs specific to the patient's age, growth, and development.
  • Initiate a plan of care upon completion of the assessment.
  • Establish priorities for patient care based on patient needs.
  • Verbalize understanding of patient diagnosis and plan of care.
  • Safely and correctly initiate and document nursing interventions in emergency situations.
  • Administer, observe, and document the effectiveness of medications and recognize and report adverse reactions immediately.
  • Provide individualized instructions to patients and their significant others regarding the plan of care.
  • Demonstrate safe and correct use of unit-specific equipment.
  • Ensure each patient's general hygiene needs are met.
  • Perform pre-operative and post-operative care and instructions for each assigned patient.
  • Perform dressing changes using aseptic technique.
  • Collect and label specimens per policy when ordered by a physician.
  • Perform bedside glucose monitoring according to policy, perform ostomy care, and reinforce teaching.
  • Insert intermittent or indwelling urinary catheters using aseptic technique.
  • Administer oxygen therapy according to physician order.
  • Transfer patients in/out of the GI station in an efficient manner, obtaining a complete and correct set of physician orders, and complete documentation of transfer summary.
Qualifications:
  • Current RN FL State license.
  • BLS and ACLS required.
  • CPAN preferred.
  • Graduated from an accredited school of Nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Min. 1 year of experience.
