Job Summary:

The Specialty Registered Nurse Endoscopy will be responsible for providing direct patient care, performing endoscopic procedures, and collaborating with our multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient flow. You will work closely with our physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform patient and family teaching regarding endoscopic procedures.
  • Prepare the endoscopy room appropriately with necessary medications and accessory devices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of accessory devices, including hot and cold biopsy forceps, snares, bipolar probes, banding products, ERCP catheters, and guidewires.
  • Evaluate, assess, and document patient's cardio-respiratory status while undergoing moderate sedation, report abnormal values to physician, and intervene appropriately.
  • Perform initial vital signs and admission history, including introduction to patient and family, assessment of chief complaint, and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival.
  • Obtain and document a complete nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors to develop a plan of care upon admission.
  • Perform and document an accurate system assessment.
  • Respond to diagnostic data and initiate appropriate action or intervention.
  • Assess patient education needs on arrival and discharge.
  • Assess psychological needs specific to patient's age, growth, and development.
  • Initiate plan of care upon completion of assessment.
  • Establish priorities for patient care based on patient's needs.
  • Verbalize understanding of patient diagnosis and plan of care.
  • Safely and correctly initiate and document nursing interventions in emergency situations.
  • Administer, observe, and document effectiveness, recognizing and reporting adverse reactions immediately.
  • Provide individualized instructions to patient/significant other regarding plan of care.
  • Demonstrate safe and correct use of unit-specific equipment.
  • Ensure that each patient's general hygiene needs are met.
  • Perform pre-operative and post-operative care and instructions for each assigned patient.
  • Perform dressing changes using aseptic technique.
  • Collect and label specimens per policy when ordered by physician.
  • Perform bedside glucose monitoring according to policy, perform ostomy care, including irrigation, appliance usage, and reinforcement of teaching.
  • Insert intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique.
  • Administer oxygen therapy according to physician order.
  • Transfer patients in/out of the GI station in an efficient manner, by obtaining a complete and correct set of physician orders, and complete documentation of transfer summary.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Current RN FL State license
  • BLS and ACLS required
  • CPAN preferred
  • Graduated from an accredited school of Nursing. BSN preferred
  • Min. 1 year of experience
