Nursing Unit Director

The Nursing Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing nursing care for residents, as well as supervising daily nursing activities on assigned units of the Skilled Nursing Facility.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and supervise daily functions of nursing staff in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ensure all nursing personnel comply with written policies and procedures established by the facility.
- Participate in updating and reviewing care plans, identifying goals, problems, approaches, and revisions.
- Administer professional nursing services as needed, commensurate with scope of practice.
- Meet with nursing staff to discuss planning, services, programs, and activities, and monitor duties completion.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure total regimen of care is maintained.
- Manage quality and accuracy of Electronic Health Records (EHR) for residents and staff under oversight.
- Improve unit-based performance metrics, including falls, FAPU, QM's, re-hospitalizations, etc.
- Oversee quality of resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Participate in new resident/family member orientation.
- Complete daily clinical and environmental rounds to evaluate resident care and report significant events.
- Address resident/family issues in a timely manner, reporting significant issues to the Director of Nursing.
- Communicate with healthcare practitioners to review treatment plans, complete orders, progress notes, etc.
- Oversee completion of accident/incident reports involving residents, reporting to IDT.
- Complete Recapitulations for Physician signature, reporting discrepancies to Director of Nursing.
- Ensure adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment for resident care needs.
- Conduct employee performance recommendations to the Director of Nursing.
- Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and potentially hostile people within the facility.
- Ability to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication.
- At least 6 months experience as a nurse leader (direct or indirect care).
- Supervisory leadership is preferred.
- Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in Florida.
