Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at the University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the smooth operation of our Ambulatory Clinics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist licensed independent practitioners, RNs, and other healthcare professionals in providing patient care and performing technical tasks.
  • Coordinate patient visits, including preparing patients for exams, taking vital signs, and administering medications.
  • Manage medical records, including updating patient information and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Perform laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood work, and assist with electrocardiograms and x-ray procedures as needed.
  • Identify vaccination needs for specific patient populations and provide education on health and wellness topics.
  • Provide administrative support, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and communicating with other departments.
Requirements
  • Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.
