General Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Optometrist delivers specialized services to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner, adhering to departmental standards and electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation and finalizing notes.
  • Comply with FHCSD policies and procedures, ensuring timely submission of credentialing and licensing paperwork, maintaining required CME units, and attending mandatory meetings.
  • Exhibit effective listening and communication skills while maintaining respectful interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Meet a productivity expectation of 2.74 patients per hour.
Performance Standards

Maintain satisfactory peer reviews by effectively assessing medical information, including pathophysiology and patient presentation, to promote health and prevent disease.

Demonstrate reliability and flexibility in meeting clinic site and organizational needs, prioritizing tasks, and adhering to schedules.

Utilize resources efficiently and practice medicine in a cost-effective manner.

Administrative Duties

Engage in administrative responsibilities, including managing lab reports, charts, and medication refills appropriately.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Board certified in the relevant specialty.
  • Graduated from an accredited medical school.
  • Possess a current, unrestricted Physician and Surgeon license to practice in California, if applicable.
Experience and Skills
  • Preferred: 1 year of experience working with underserved or low-income populations.
  • Ability to effectively engage with patients from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Basic computer literacy for compliance with departmental requirements.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are highly desirable, along with cultural and linguistic sensitivity.
  • Proficient in taking detailed medical histories.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community health.
Physical Requirements

Frequent bending, lifting, and standing are necessary, along with occasional fine manipulation and reaching.

Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and biohazards is expected.

Patient Demographics

Experience with a wide range of patient ages, including adolescents, adults, children, and geriatrics.
