Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Professional Documentation Specialist to join our team at the University of Missouri. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of clinical documentation practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with new clinicians to educate them on our documentation practices and ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Review and audit existing clinicians' documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and optimization of reimbursement.
  • Provide education on changing guidelines and best practices to clinicians and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle and Professional Coding teams to identify and address educational needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues in medical coding and documentation.
  • Conduct audits of professional coders and clinicians to ensure compliance with guidelines and regulations.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in business, healthcare, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience in healthcare patient accounts or coding.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Documentation Expert Outpatient (CDEO) certification by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
  • Additional certifications in coding and compliance.
