Job Summary

The UNC Health REX Cardiac Procedural/ Cardiac Medicine Intermediate Care Unit is located on the 8th floor of the Heart and Vascular Hospital.

This 24-bed unit provides intermediate-level care to patients with complex cardiac conditions and multiple co-morbidities.

Patients on this unit may have undergone cardiac and vascular interventions, heart attacks, or heart failure, and require close monitoring and treatment.

The staff on this unit serves adult and geriatric patients, providing a high level of care and support.

Each room is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including bedside monitors, computers, and scanners, to support the provision of care.

The unit operates through a team approach, involving nurses, care managers, APPs, physicians, pharmacists, care managers, chaplains, patient care technicians, and secretaries.

Specialized technicians observe patient rhythms in the Telemetry Command Center, providing support to the team and monitoring for rhythm changes.

Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
  • Review patient care documentation, noting any significant changes in the patient's condition, and report to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Provide a range of clerical tasks, including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information, reviewing orders, and maintaining medical records.
  • Perform routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support, including PI audits and data entry.
  • Assist with direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Measure and record vital signs, patient height, and weight.
  • Collect specimens, perform skin preps/scrubs, and capillary blood glucose checks.
  • Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician, and document patient understanding of instructions.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Requires six (6) months of clerical or customer service experience
  • Must be fluent in verbal and written English language
