Position Overview:
The City of Danville, IL, is in search of a skilled Transit Vehicle Technician for our Mass Transit Department.

Role Responsibilities:
This role involves executing maintenance and repair operations on transit vehicles, equipment, and facilities.

Compensation:
$26.11/Hour

Key Duties:
1. Diagnose issues, replace components, and make adjustments to ensure the proper functioning of rolling stock and other equipment.
2. Conduct preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
3. Address equipment issues in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
4. Complete work orders and document parts usage on equipment reports.
5. Maintain a clean and organized workshop.
6. Familiarity with computer programs is essential.
7. Assist in the repair of buildings, equipment, transfer zones, and grounds, including winter maintenance tasks such as snow removal and salting.
8. Repair or assist in the repair of passenger shelters, benches, and bus stop signage.

Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with operations and dispatch to assess the roadworthiness of rolling stock and address issues that arise when the Lead Mechanic and Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor are unavailable.

Additional Responsibilities:
Be prepared to fuel buses or assist with utility tasks as necessary.

Communication:
Effectively communicate with the Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor, fellow maintenance staff, and dispatchers regarding operational information related to DMT.

Emergency Response:
Respond to roadside emergencies and perform repairs on disabled vehicles.

Assistance:
Support the lead mechanic with larger repair projects.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent certification.
- Relevant vocational training.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a diesel mechanic, or a combination of education and training demonstrating the ability to fulfill the duties of a Mechanic.
- Practical experience as a Mechanic.
- Proficient in using all hand tools and specialized tools for assigned repair tasks.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to understand both written and verbal instructions.
- Illinois Class CDL Vehicle Operators License with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction.
- Must provide personal hand tools up to two (2) inches and metric up to twenty-two (22) millimeters.
