The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing direct patient care and supporting administrative duties in a medical practice. This position requires a strong commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic or office.
Key Responsibilities- Administrative Duties:
- Respond to patient inquiries and manage phone calls
- Update and maintain accurate patient medical records
- Process insurance claims and handle billing
- Coordinate appointments and schedule hospital admissions
- Arrange for laboratory services and manage medical supplies
- Clinical Duties:
- Assist medical and nursing staff with various tasks, including taking medical histories and recording vital signs
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, and assist the physician during these events
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests, and dispose of contaminated supplies
- Administer medications as directed by a physician and authorize drug refills
- Draw blood, prepare patients for x-rays and tests, and take electrocardiograms
- Education:
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
- Experience:
- Experience is preferred but not required
- Certifications:
- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA is required
- BLS Certification is required
